[RULE] kdrive postinstall details

Hello All

Gabriel mentioned that his adding kdrive to XFree (and it would be the same for Xorg, too) simply increased the amount of disk space used. This prompts me to go into the "after install" in some more detail. I dare write this in the knowledge (and hope!) that those more knowledgeable than myself will step up to correct or clarify where necessary.

For rh9 Michael gaves us an rpm which when installed added some files to /usr/X11R6/bin/:

The individual server files: Xvesa,Xsis530,Xtrident,Xtrio,Xts300,Xmach64,Xsavage,Xi810,Xigs,Xfbdev
and changed the soft link X and substituted a modified startx for the one originally there. The other server file, XFree86 remains. By arranging that the soft link X points to one of these, one arrives at (hopefully) the one that works with the graphics card in the box. Afterwards, all the others can be removed (including the larger XFree86.) Only then is there a gain of disk space. The other, even larger file, Xprt, I assume has to stay (please jump in here if I need correction!)

I have no idea if there are any further eliminations possible. I suspect many of the fonts that have been installed could be reduced, but I don't know enough to do it.

For fc3 and fc4 Michael gave us kdrive.tar.gz and a script file, build.sh. This places these same above mentioned server files in /opt/kdrive/bin/ but again after arriving at which X server file to point at with X (which still must live in /usr/X11R6/bin) the others can be eliminated along with XFree86 which is still found in /usr/X11R6/bin/

As with rh9, I have the same gaps of not knowing what else may be eliminated.

Richard
