1) Καινούρια συμβουλή που πήρα:

The modem has a Conexant codec: CXT
and there is support for the modem controller: 8086:24c6 82801DB ICH4
is your critical identifying information.

SuSE 9.0 professional does have have the cogent packages:
  CD4/suse/i586/hsfmodem-5.03.27mbsibeta02122600-92.i586.rpm - softmodem
