Hardware installation problem

Hello thre,

I installed linux Slackware 9.1 on my PC but I could not install the following two devices
 * USB modem (it is a Zoom 3090 )
 * parallel scanner (a Primax Colorado Direct)

I do not know much about installing devices in Linux so any help will be really appreciated.

I should mention that I managed to istall a USB printer on the pc (and it works properly)
