Hello Everyone,

I have created an Installation Report Template and requested
publication of it on the RULE Project site. I eagerly await your
comments. It is here:

http://www.rule-project.org/ecrire/articles.php3?id_article=40&statut_nouv=prop&Submit=Request+the+publication+of+this+article

Some observations:

I started to include the instructions for filling it out as part of
the template, and quickly discovered that writing about SPIP
typographic shortcuts from inside SPIP is quite difficult. Ultimately,
I decided that I will need two articles. One is the Installation
Report template itself, the other is the instructions for filling it
out. This latter could be produced both as a SPIP formatted article,
as well as a text version for download.

BTW, Marco, I accidently created two copies of the "Install Report
Template Instructions" article that I have started working on. They
are articles # 41 and 42. Being identical, one or the other could be
deleted.

Further reflections:

Slinky Detect detects & reports on CPU, chipset, RAM, hard disk, other
IDE-attached devices, and PCI devices. It does not see ISA devices or
SCSI-attached and PCMCIA-attached devices, at least not that I have
been able to determine. As well its output seems, maybe, to be a bit
cryptic for the less technically savvy members of the potential
audience. So, that leads to the next proposed article topic, which is
an article concerning hardware identification. Besides using Slinky
Detect, other techniques (using Windows to identify hardware, web
searches, etc.) can be discussed in detail separately.

Ultimately these disparate pieces could be pulled together by a
central "How to perform a Slinky installation." The central article
could largely be written as a framework for references to the separate
articles.

Thanks,
CDR
