I have almost no experience in that field, but when attempting to rebuild 
the docbook and xml tools for another distro I did run into exactly these 
dependencies. In my case, they only needed to be installed in order to 
*rebuild* the src.rpm. They were not necessary in order to install and run 
the actual packages I rebuilt. Guess: they will not be necessary to run 
abiword, just to rebuild it.
