It looks like a problem with the setup.sh script.

Could you please try again using
http://www.tuxfan.homeip.net:8080/rule/slinky/slinky-v0.3.97/slinky-v0.3.97.img
to create a new boot disk? It contains a new version of setup.sh.
Or, if you want to use the disks you have, boot the installer and exit to
a shell rather than beginning the install, then edit /scripts/setup.sh:
At line 227, change "LOGIN={$LOGIN}@" to read "LOGIN=${LOGIN}@"
( Line 236 contains a similar error as well PORT=:{$PORT}, should be
PORT=:${PORT} )
Save the file and then execute /scripts/setup.sh to start the installer.
