Πρόβλημα σύνδεσης στο ίντερνετ με το kppp

Σε debian (sarge) αντιμετωπίζω πρόβλημα σύνδεσης
στο ίντερνετ μέσω του Kppp ως απλός χρήστης.
Ως χρήστης root η σύνδεση γίνεται κανονικά
μέσω του Kppp. Επίσης ως απλός χρήστης
δημιούργησα μία σύνδεση με το πρόγραμμα
pppconfig, με την οποία επίσης συνδέομαι
κανονικά (από κονσόλα, με τις εντολές pon/poff).
Το πρόβλημα είναι ότι δεν μπορώ να συνδεθώ
ως απλός χρήστης από το Kppp. Τα μηνύματα
λάθους που μου δίνει το Kppp είναι άλλοτε «The
pppd daemon died unexpectedly! --- Exit status: 19» και άλλοτε «The
pppd daemon died unexpectedly! --- Exit status: 16».
Τα παραθέτω όπως ακριβώς εμφανίζονται:

KPPP could not prepare a PPP log. It's very likely that pppd was started without
the "debug" option.
Without this option it's difficult to find out PPP problems, so you should turn
on the debug option.
Shall I turn it on now?

The "debug" option has been added. You should now try to reconnect. If that
fails again, you will get a PPP log that may help you to track down the
connection problem.

Notice that the remote system has sent the following message:
"user unknown"
This may give you a hint why the the connection has failed.
