NEW YORK (Reuters) - Two major computer makers, Hewlett-Packard Co.<br>
and Silicon Graphics Inc., gave the Linux operating system a boost<br>
Wednesday, announcing they will support the free software product.<br>
The companies said they will begin providing Linux as an option on<br>
some of their computers built with chips from Intel Corp., the Wall<br>
Street Journal reported. HP will also create a version of Linux to<br>
run on its "Merced" chip, which it is jointly developing with
Intel.<br>
