Ναι, κάθε διανομή βάζει αρκετά patches που θεωρεί απαραίτητα. Παράδειγμα:
sys-kernel/gentoo-sources /* Full sources including the Gentoo patchset for
the 2.6 kernel tree */
sys-kernel/vanilla-sources /* Full sources for the Linux kernel */
Τα vanilla είναι η έκδοση κατευθείαν απ' τον ftp.kernel.org.

Στις περισσότερες διανομές έτσι είναι.
