Adaptec AHA-1480B PCMCIA SCSI card.

Hi everybody,

I am trying to install SUSE 8.0 on an HP laptop using an external CD-ROM
drive, attached to the laptop via a SCSI Adaptec AHA-1480B PCMCIA card.

I am using boot & kernel modules floppy disks, that I have prepared,
according to the installation instructions.

However, when booting and loading the PCMCIA modules, when initializing
the card manager, the system beeps once and then freezes completely (to
the "big-red-switch" level...).

If I remove the Adaptec PCMCIA card before starting the installation,
the card manager gets initialized and the installation process proceeds
further (however, this is meaningless, since there is no CD-ROM drive
attached to the system...). In my opinion, this indicates that the
problem is relevant to the Adaptec card rather than to the PCMCIA
circuitry of the laptop.

Can anyobdy help me resolve this issue or point to some other mailing
list(s), where I can seek help?

TIA,

PS: I hope you don't mind the English language, fellows, this message is
being copied to some expatriate colleague of mine...
