Λοιπόν, απαντάω σε όλους (για λόγους ευκολίας).

Οι συσκευές μου είναι ως εξής:
/dev/hda - Σκληρός (win) - Primary Master
/dev/hdb - Σκληρός (linux) - Primary Slave
/dev/hdc - DVD - Secondary Master
/dev/hdd - CD-Recorder - Secondary Slave

Έβαλα στο boot.local τα "hdparm -c3 -u1 -m16 /dev/hda" και "hdparm -c3 -u1 -m16 /dev/hda" και τώρα :

Επίσης με "hdparm -i /dev/hdx" παίρνω "UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 *udma4 udma5", άρα δε χρειάζεται να χρησιμοποιήσω -Χ?? αφού η μητρική μου υποστηρίζει μέχρι ΑΤΑ 66 (UDMA4).

Έκανα upgrade τα cdrtools (2.0pre1) και το firmware του drive.

Τελικά, δοκίμασα να γράψω σε 40x με fifo 16ΜΒ αλλά πάλι τα ίδια. Η κατάσταση βελτιώθηκε κάπως (150-170 "buffer underruns predicted" αντί για 220+ πριν τις αναβαθμίσεις) αλλά το πρόβλημα παραμένει. 

Μήπως φταίει και ο σχετικά αργός PIII at 800 που διαθέτω;
