                                       Serial support

Applies to

Kernel: Version 2.2.5

Symptom:

****After compiling a new kernel you can no longer acces your serial devices****

Reason:

Since the 2.2.5 kernel, serial support is automatically loaded as a module. If
you have chosen to compile this support into the
kernel, the kernel will still try to load this support as a module after the
kernel is loaded.

Solution:

The file:

/lib/modules/2.2.5/misc/serial.o

must be deleted, so that the module can no longer be loaded.

In the file /etc/conf.modules the line:

alias char-major-4 serial

should be changed to:

alias char-major-4 off

to prevent the kernel from trying to load the module (that was just deleted).

PS: eimai telika xarorhxtra kai _den_ doyleyw gia thn M$ :-)
