Corel Pledges Support for Linux Platform

Ottawa, Canada* May 11, 1998* Corel Corporation is extending its support
and development commitment to the Linux operating system, currently being
used by an estimated 7 million people worldwide. The award-winning software
developer will release Corel® WordPerfect® 8 Personal and Server
Editions for Linux this summer and plans to develop a suite of business
applications for the Linux platform, Corel CEO Michael Cowpland told a meeting
of Linux users May 7, 1998. Corel® WordPerfect® 7 for Linux is currently
available commercially.

*We see a strong and growing demand for this emerging platform. Users
have doubled annually for the past few years--growing from half a million
users in 1994 to about 7 million this year. For many users Linux is a viable
alternative to the various Windows® platforms,* said Dr. Michael
Cowpland, president and chief executive officer of Corel Corporation.

remarkable leadership in the personal computer software industry.  With
this initiative Corel is showing the opportunity to other software vendors
that high quality software applications can be successful on the Linux
