I apologize in advance for the following:
- While I program in about 25 computer languages, I
only speak English. Hopefully these translators will
help:
- If you have received this more than once, I
collected Linux User Group addresses by hand from
their sites for this single mailing, I am not trying
to spam anyone
I have written an article that was published on
LinuxToday about the state of Linux documentation:
-
http://linuxtoday.com/infrastructure/2004110600126OPCYSW
For Google's translation of the article:
-
http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&q=%22Where+Have+All+the+HOWTOs+Gone%22&btnG=Search
I am now polling Linux User Groups to get a sense of
how much support there is for creating and maintaining
a central Linux HOWTO Wiki. If you know of any
interested groups that might not be receiving this
email, please forward it to them.

Please poll your members to find if there is support
for the Linux HOWTO Wiki project that I am
recommending in the article.
I would appreciate the following information:
1) Are there at least 5 members willing to commit to
creating an initial subsection of the Linux HOWTO
Wiki?
___ Yes ___ No
2) Are there at least 3 members willing to commit to
one year of maintenance for that subsection of the
Linux HOWTO Wiki?
___ Yes ___ No
3) Does the group have a preference for the hosting
site (if multiple choices, please rank in order of
preference)?
___ Linux Documentation Project
___ Existing Linux help sites
___ Google
___ Other:
_______________________________________________
_______________________________________________
_______________________________________________
4) Does the group prefer that posters be required to
create a user id to reduce the possibility of
defacement to wiki pages?
___ Yes ___ No
I will be collecting this information for about a
month. When I am done, I will publish the results in
a followup article at OSNews. Hopefully, this will
lead to a quantum leap in the quality of Linux
documentation.

Linux User Group member since 1996
